When travelling to various countries in the world it is typically necessary to have a passport.  The passport is a document that is issued by your home country.  It allows you to travel outside your country. Most countries allow you to visit for under several months without further documents.  If you are planning an extended visit to a country or wish to work while in another country you will need to get a visa.  Each country has its own specifications and regulations regarding visas.  Most countries have several types of visas available. These are usually separated into two types – permanent and temporary workers.  Those who are seeking permanent status should apply for a permanent visa.  Temporary visas or work permits apply to students and transients.  

The most common category of permanent status visa throughout the world is the visa for skilled or educated workers.  Some countries are looking for workers in specific fields that are currently lacking.  In most cases visas are granted based on a point system.  Points are typically awarded for each of several categories such as education, previous work capacity and experience.  There are often additional points awarded for being able to speak the local language of the country.  Visas are ultimately the decision of the immigration department of each country.  You are to apply for visas at the local embassy of the country that is located in your native land.  Visa applications generally take months to years for approval, so it is important to begin the process as early as possible.
