How Do You Get Tier 2 Work Permits?

The Tier 2 work permit is part of the Five-Tier points based system that the UK is about to implement. Though Tier 1 has already been implemented in 2008, the Tier 2 work permits will be implemented in the months that follow.

The Tier 2 work permit is one of the tiers or categories of the United Kingdom’s points based system. The Tier system covers immigration in the country based both on employment and studies. Tier 2 covers migration into the country for the skilled professionals. Tier 2 is specific to the skilled professionals who have an existing employment offer.

The Tier 2 visas will be addressing the shortages in the labour force. It will fill jobs especially in the industries of information technology, education, and engineering. This new tier system is expected to be implemented in the third quarter of the year 2008.

If employers or companies would like to hire skilled professionals from the third world countries, then the companies or employers must be able to sponsor the prospective employee to get into the UK. Plus, the employer must be able to show that they cannot fill the certain job with any applicant from the EU or European Union or from the EEA or European Economic Area. This can be done through RLMT or the Resident Labour Market Test.

Other conditions that can be satisfied if the above two do not apply are if for example, the migrant is a religious worker or sportsperson in the UK, or the migrant is part of an Intra Company Transfer who has been employed in an overseas office for at least six months.
