A South African retirement visa is given to people who wish to retire to the country. This visa allows an individual to live in the country on a seasonal basis and has a validity of four years. It can be renewed any number of times for a similar period.
If a foreign individual wishes to visit family or friends or just tour the country, a South African visitor visa or tourist visa must be obtained. This category of visa has a validity of up to three months and does not allow the holder to work in the country. However, a short course of study is allowed.
