Immigration to the USA and to any other country requires a multi-step process. One of these is the medical examination, which is a necessary element for you to amend your status. Its purpose is to find out if you have health conditions that need further follow-up.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) can provide with you with a list of approved clinics or doctors who can do immigration medical examinations. It would be helpful if you make an early appointment to one of these approved entities to avoid any delay. You also need to complete and bring Form I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. You can also check with your consulate office if they require passport-size photos for your medical exam, since some consulates require you to do so. You also need to bring evidence of immunisations, if you have undergone previous immunisations. Your doctor can advise you if you still need further immunisations.

Your doctor should examine your mental and physical health situation. During the medical exam, you will need to take off your clothes. Once the doctor finds out that you still need further tests due to the result of your medical exam, he may send you to the local public health department or to your personal doctor for further treatment or tests.

You will be also subjected to a tuberculosis exam. Applicants who are two years of age or over are required to bring a chest x-ray or tuberculin test. Patients who are 15 years old or older will be subjected to std testing to find out if they have Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection or syphilis.

Once the exam has been completed, your doctor will provide you with the documentation you need for the completion of your status adjustment.
