In previous years, the Swedish government has allowed certain migrants to come to the country without a specific employment offer and/or residence yet bring their family members with them. Today, the Swedish government is looking into changing all that. The News International has recently reported that the government is considering changing the requirement such that the migrants need to have a job and place of residence first before they are allowed to bring their family to the country.
The northern European Union nation, Sweden, is on the verge of deciding on this legislative proposal. Both Migration Minister Tobias Billström and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt have extended the government’s decision on soliciting recommendations on the said issue. The new requirement that they will implement will only mean that the person who is working and residing in the country has the ability to support his family or relatives with a steady income and housing.
This proposed change in the immigration requirement aims to strengthen the employment policy in Sweden. It will enable their passive policy to focus more on the active employment efforts from the government. At the same time, it will aid the country in its prospect of integration.
This new law is very similar to the other laws of the European Union nations. Previously, the country of Sweden is known to have less rigorous policies and requirements when it comes to immigration. Among the European Union nations, only Sweden and Belgium are known to allow migrants to bring their families without requiring them to show financial capability. This new law will leave only Belgium with that kind of policy.
