So you have decided to take a trip to New Zealand. Honeymoon, holiday, or simply a weekend away, the time has come to begin preparing for that trip. And the first question on everyone’s mind is: do I need a visa?

It depends on the length and purpose of your stay in New Zealand. As a UK citizen you are allowed to stay for up to 6 months on simply your passport without needing a visa, so long as you are only going for vacation. The nature of most people’s visit is exactly that, so for the most part you won’t have to worry about any sort of special documentation.

It is recommended that you have comprehensive medical insurance for the duration of your travel aboard, regardless of your destination. With regards to New Zealand, if you are from the UK you get the same immediate medical coverage as any New Zealand citizen or resident, so should anything go wrong, you don’t have to worry.

Travelling to New Zealand as a UK citizen is just about as easy as driving across the country to visit relatives, and is absolutely pain-free, a guarantee that family vacations cannot always give. There are no restrictions so long as your visit is less than six months. So give a heavy sigh of relief! There will be no hefty amount of paperwork required to take a trip to the land of the Kiwi, and you can get straightaway to your enjoyment of all the beautiful holiday destinations that await you in the beautiful islands of New Zealand.

Obtaining a skilled worker visa within New Zealand is a relatively straight-forward process. The government website has a detailed page describing all of the necessary procedures that skilled migrants must go through in order to obtain a work visa under the skilled migrant category at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/caniapply/requirements/default.html.

Firstly you must show a medical document showing a recent physical examination that proves you are in good health. This includes a chest x-ray, along with your physical medical evaluation. Since New Zealand is interested in people who display a long-term desire to work towards the good of the country, you will need to be younger than 55 years of age.

You will also need to prove that you can speak sufficient English as well as provide a police report. This is a simple background check to prove that you are not a notorious criminal.

The skilled worker visa is obtained once the government of New Zealand has determined that you have the skills they are looking for to perform certain tasks. The government website has a list of both short-term skills and long-term skills desired, defined as a Skill Shortage List, or areas where they are lacking specific long-term or short-term employees.

Everything is based upon an Expression of Interest points system. This is an application that you fill out, and for every skill and years you performed that skill you are awarded points depending on how New Zealand currently has the skills and years of work related experience rated. Every fortnight they send out an invitation to people who scored higher than 140 points on their EOI form. Anyone with lower scores is looked at on an individual basis.

Once you have been invited to apply, you simply follow the instructions and you are on your way to obtaining a skilled worker visa for New Zealand.

Applying for a work visa or work permit to any foreign country is generally a long and tedious process that can take anywhere from six months to a year or more to complete. Generally any individual preparing for an international transitional phase will have a company who uses lawyers to take care of all the various documentation that deals with moving, but on the off chance that you are one of those adventurous souls who just wants to try something new, then this article may be of some help to you.

Your first choice of action should you find yourself reaching a decision as to whether or not you want to gain a work visa or permit for New Zealand is head on over to their government website that deals with the specifics, http://www.immigration.govt.nz/.

Secondly you should be prepared to provide documentation regarding any and all skills that you have. If a company has requested you to come work for them it makes it much easier in the long run, but New Zealand also has a relatively unique program which is called a “Work to Residence Visa” program, which literally allows an individual to be living in New Zealand while working towards a permanent residency visa by having a temporary work visa.

New Zealand also has a Long Term Skill and Short Term Skill List available on their government website which shows various trades and skills which are considered high and low priority and can give an individual a greater chance of obtaining a work visa for the country.

The New Zealand working holiday visa which targets young energetic individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who want to ply their trade in New Zealand. The working holiday visa is the centrepiece of an exchange program between New Zealand and a number of other countries.

Some of the countries which feature in this exchange program are the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Korea, the Netherlands, Malta, Slovakia, Malaysia just to mention a few.

The visa has a life span of 12 months for all the countries expect for the United Kingdom. The New Zealand working holiday visa for UK citizens is varied for 23 months. However immigrants from the UK can only work for 12 out of the 23 months available on their visa.

New Zealand visa rules state that holders of a holiday working visa should not bring their dependants into New Zealand and should not supplement travel with work. In addition the work holiday visa holder is not allowed to apply for permanent employment.

Application for the New Zealand holiday work visa is made from the country of one’s origin. However immigrants from Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands have a special scheme which allows them to apply for the visa while in New Zealand.

Immigrants wishing to engage in permanent employment can apply for the Skilled Migrant New Zealand visa. This makes use of a Point Based System – PBS – to determine eligibility.

Attributes used to calculate points include age, education qualifications, work experience, region and if one has a job offer in New Zealand.

An established business that wants its top employees to set up in New Zealand can do so under the Employees Relocating Business visa. It is also possible to completely relocate a business and senior employees to the country of New Zealand. It is acceptable for the parent or original company to keep on operating in the home country. The New Zealand authorities support the maintenance of an association between the parent company and the new business. It is expected that the main applicants will have an IELTS – band 6.5 level of English. This is higher than other investment categories. Applicants who are not the main principals can ‘pre-purchase’ tuition for English language if their level is below this requirement.

If you want your investment visa application to be approved it is necessary to meet each and every requirement. This will ensure that your application to set up a business in New Zealand will not have unnecessary delays. When you apply be sure that any person aged seventeen and above has had a police check. Each person must also have a medical certificate. If you want to live and/or run a business in New Zealand you must have good English skills, along with the right financial support. In New Zealand business is conducted in English, and so an investor will need to have very good English to make a success of his or her venture. New Zealand is a sought after country for investors. The infrastructure is excellent, the population is well educated and the prospects are high.

Applying for a New Zealand visa will depend on what you are planning to do in the country. Different information and requirements will be given to you depending on which type of visa you need. There are many types of visas that you can apply for such as business, study, work and travel visas.

The first thing that you must have when applying for a New Zealand visa is a Medical Certificate to show that you are healthy and you are in good condition to study, work, do business or travel in any part of New Zealand. Students should also have a Medical Insurance.

For people who wish to study or stay for more than two years, a police certificate should be provided to show that you are of good conduct and character. And to prove that you are of good conduct and character, you must provide a police certificate of citizenship from your country and from any other country you have lived in for at least five years or more.

For those who wish to work in New Zealand, the employer in New Zealand is supposed to write a valid offer of employment describing the job and confirm that the position is best filled by you.

The cost of a New Zealand visa also depends on the nationality, type of visa and how long you intend to stay in New Zealand. Most visitors can remain in the country for nine to eighteen months and three months is allowed to visitors who do not require visas.

New Zealand is among the countries that offer some of the most attractive immigration programs around the globe. In fact, they continuously improve their programs to better assist their valuable migrants in the country. With the ongoing improvements made to certain programs, another strategy plan has been revised. According to the Immigration Minister of New Zealand, David Cunliffe, they have changed the New Zealand Settlement Strategy plan to better aid migrants who are settling in Kiwi.

The country of New Zealand is known for embracing diversity according to Cunliffe. That is because they not only attract migrants to the country but they design programs that will make these migrants stay and remain in their country. They make sure that these migrants will settle in New Zealand and will do so happily. The revisions in the program ought to be a proactive approach to make sure that migrants’ settlement requirements are provided.

New Zealand globally competes with the rest of the world for talent or labour resources. To be able to remain competitive, certain measures are taken just like matching the investments that can attract prospective migrants. With that, New Zealand is cooking up programs that will provide the best settlements for such migrants. The immigration department has involved 16 agencies to help the migrants to settle quickly and easily. This includes ensuring the migrants feel welcome in the community. Support networks will also be available to help. Certain career services will also be available for newcomers still seeking a job.

According to recent surveys conducted in the country, over ninety percent of New Zealanders believe that skilled migrants contribute to the growth and prosperity of their country. Eighty percent of the people surveyed believe that skilled migrants would improve the current New Zealanders way of live. They also believe that these migrants would improve the country’s social diversity.

In the same survey, nine out of ten of its citizens see that there is a massive skills shortage in their country. And they feel that their government should create programs that would entice their skilled citizens working overseas to come back and work in their country. Along with this, they feel that there should be more incentives given to the skilled Kiwis in their country to discourage them from seeking work abroad but rather stay and work in New Zealand. Fifty-nine percent of New Zealanders believe that tax incentives would be a big factor in helping the cause, while some believe that resettlement aid and help in buying their homes would help a lot.

Even though New Zealanders support migration, they feel that the English language requirement should not be removed. The New Zealand government recently made adjustments to their immigration policies to encourage more skilled worker migration to the country. They have adjusted scoring or point earnings for the New Zealand’s Skilled Migrant Category. Adjusting the scoring would help more skilled workers to pass the migrant score system, thereby allowing more skilled workers to migrate into the country. They also give international students one year after graduation to find a job.
