Appling for a working visa to Australia, or a Skilled Migrant visa, is more a matter of having the skills required by the country than anything else. If an employer has expressed interest in hiring you from abroad, then chances are they are going to be helping you every step of the way in getting through all of the red tape necessary to earning your working visa. But if you simply want to see if you have skills that would allow you a work visa on your own, you can head over to the Austrian government’s website and check the list to see what their current list of needed skills are at http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/.
Applying for this visa is a multi-step process. You need to be under the age of 45, have paid the relevant fees, lodged an application with their ASPC (Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre), obtained a positive skill assessment from the relevant assessing authority of your chosen occupation, and meet the recent work experience requirement or have met the 2 year study requirement within 6 months of your applying for the work visa.
Before you can begin the process you need to take the points test on the website. This will determine if your application will be processed, put on hold, or rejected. If you score less than 100 points your application will be refused. If you score more than 100 but less than 120 points you are put in the “pool” from which work visas are drawn for a period of up to two years. If you score more than 120 points you will continue through the application process immediately. Points are determined by your relevant skills, language restrictions, health, and character.
