When you plan to marry your fiancé in the US, you may bring them to the country using a fiancé visa or a K1 visa. Only the K1 visa is available to enable your fiancé to enter the United States. If your fiancé enters the country with a tourist, student, or business visa, then their legal status may be questionable to the US immigration, if your intention is to get married. There is a chance for refusal or refusal of permanent resident status on the basis that your fiancé only visited the country to marry a US citizen. This is a visa regulation that will make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to ever receive any type of US visa in the future.

To be able to bring your fiancé to the US, you will need to meet a number of requirements. The first requirement is that you must be a US citizen and not just a legal permanent resident of the US. Secondly, you must be able to prove that you have met your fiancé in person within the past two years. There are certain exemptions as long as you have proven your relationship to the USCIS. The third requirement is that you are both legally free to marry. This means there is no outstanding marriage in the US or in any other country. The fourth requirement is that you meet the minimum income requirements. However, again there are exceptions to this rule. Finally, your fiancé must not have any criminal record and must not have violated US immigration laws.

Once you have satisfied these requirements, you are ready to file your application forms. Complete the forms through the USCIS forms online and submit to the US consulate or embassy where your fiancé resides. Necessary fees must be paid.

Like most countries having a high rate of work permit applications and immigrant petitions, it is not impossible for the United Kingdom to have a backlog in processing these applications. However, it has been recently announced that the UK has already caught up with its backlog of work permit applications. Britain’s Border and Immigration Agency or BIA is finally on schedule with processing such work permits.

This recent news will also greatly benefit the companies in the United Kingdom who seek professionals and hire employees not just in the country and in the members of the European Union or the European Economic Area but also from other countries around the world including third world countries.

Starting November 2007, the British Border and Immigration Agency will begin processing and reviewing applications within 5 days upon receipt. It started trying out the 5-day process in late October 2007 and it has shown good results. Of the applications received by the BIA, there were about seventy percent that had been processed within 5 business days. About 88 percent of the applications were being reviewed in just a matter of 15 days. On the other hand, for review requests, the average time it takes to decide is about 5 weeks.

The necessary steps were taken to reduce the backlogs for the reviews team as stated by the BIA. However, they are continuously working on how they can reduce the review time to a shorter period. To help in reducing delays of processing times, make sure that you double check your requirements and make sure to review your application forms. At the same time, you have to be absolutely certain that you are applying for the right type of work permit to avoid being denied or delayed.
