The UK uses a point system to establish the type of visa that is needed.  The system uses categories or tiers.  Each tier has certain qualifications associated with it.  If you are interested in immigrating to the UK you’ll want to learn about the various tiers and where you will best fit in.  The Tier 2 Visa is a work permit to live and work in the UK for a period of time.  The Tier 2 Visa is designed specifically for those who have a current offer of employment.  This differs from a Tier 1 Visa in that the Tier 1 allows you to search for employment while the Tier 2 is for those who already have an employment offer. There are some specific requirements for obtaining a Tier 2 Visa.

The most important requirement for the Tier 2 Visa is that the employer must have been unable to find a suitable local candidate to fill the position.  The candidate must show that they have the knowledge and experience to fill the position properly.  Further, the employer must show that they have properly advertised for the job position.  The advertising must be done for at least 4 weeks and must be current – within the past six-month period. Some exceptions may be made but these must be submitted for consideration.  There are certain job positions that do not need to be advertised.  These are generally higher level or specialised positions. It typically takes about a month to get approval for a Tier 2 Visa.
