What is a Tier 2 Work Permit?

The Tier 2 work permit is a part of the UK immigration Points Based System (PBS) and replaces the previous type of work permits to form a part of the new UK immigration structure. The new Tier 2 work permit requires applicants to have an offer of a job with a UK based company, and is primarily designed for medium to highly skilled workers.

All non European Economic Area (EAA) nationals planning to immigrate to the UK will need a confirmed job offer, and must have a Certificate of Sponsorship to be able to apply for a Tier 2 work permit.

The Tier 2 work permit is similar to the previous system, where the employer or sponsoring company will apply for the permit on behalf of the applicant. In addition, the new UK immigration system asks for the applicants to pass the Points Based System, which is a minimum of 50 points. Any applicant that fails the points system will fail to qualify for a Tier 2 work permit.
