What is a US Medical Visa?
A US visa is required when travelling to the United States. Depending on your purpose of stay, there are certain requirements to be fulfilled before you can obtain your US visa. If your main purpose is for medical treatment in the United States, then you must apply for a US medical visa. When applying for a medical visa, you will need to complete the requirements shown below.
A medical visa is under the non-immigrant visa classification. Thus, when applying for a medical visa, you will also need to complete the general visa requirements. Aside from the general visa requirements, you will also need to complete the requirements for medical visas. Firstly, you will need to present your local doctor’s letter that describes the diagnosis and prognosis of the applicant. It must include a detailed medical report that shows why the applicant cannot be cured in the country of origin. Aside from that, there must already be an American doctor with the same information as the local doctor. They must provide conclusions based on the local doctor.
The American doctor must also provide the estimated cost for the medical treatment that will take place in the US upon approval of the visa. This should include the complete costs for surgical operations and special treatments. In turn, the patient should be able to demonstrate their ability to pay for the proposed costs. You can either show a prepayment of the estimated costs or medical insurance in the United States, bank accounts may also suffice. If the patient previously had been treated in the US, then a letter from the doctor or hospital showing the bills have been paid would be sufficient.
