Work permits in the UK
The UK allows application for a work permit for those who have been offered a job in the country. It is the employer who must apply for the work permit for the employee. If you are only looking for a job in the UK, you may not apply for a work permit. This is not possible since the work permit is specific to the employer who applies for the permit. Thus, you are not allowed to work anywhere else in the UK because your permit, as mentioned previously, is employer specific. If you want to change jobs, you will need another permit that must be applied for by your new prospective company or employer.
In order to obtain a work permit in the UK, you will need to follow a few steps. There is a work permit application form that you must download, fill in, and print. The government of the UK has an application form that can be found at their official website. Only the employers must fill in the application. You can fill it up, print and send by post to the Border and Immigration Agency at PO Box 3973, Sheffield, S1 9BH. Now if you want to send it by courier, the delivery address you will need is the Border and Immigration Agency at 7th Floor Fountain Precinct, Balm Green, Sheffield S1 2JA.
Follow the instructions on the application form. The employer must sign it and may be asked to submit copies of all academic/professional qualifications of the candidate, the candidate’s employer references within the last 5 years, copies of any advertisements used to try to find a candidate, and a signed client contract if applicable. Within 1 to 4 weeks, should receive the results from the Home Office Border and Immigration Agency.
